Lake District, England
The Lake District is a National Park located in the north of England. The region is famous for its lakes and mountains (or fells) due to their outstanding natural beauty. The region is popular with walkers, climbers and people of like afternoon tea.
Much of the landscape of the Lake District was formed as the result of glaciation. Many of the valleys are characteristically u-shaped and the central part of the park contains many cirques which were the starting place of the glaciers. Contained within the National Park are the highest peaks in England - including Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw.
The Lake District is intimately associated with English literature during the 18th and 19th centuries. This includes the poetry of William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge and Robert Southey .
